Growing up on a farm in rural Ohio, she has always been close to nature and labour to care for the land - elements core to her interdisciplinary artistic practice. In her early years, she was always been drawing (whether in dirt or on paper), and making sculptures out of peat moss from the backwoods. As she developed her skills, she received a Presidential Scholarship for her watercolour work to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).
Carrie has a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from SAIC. After graduating from SAIC she back-packed to Australia and then gained a Masters in Landscape Architecture from The University of Western Australia. Since then Carrie has worked full-time as an artist, studio technician, studio assistant, and ceramics teacher.
Now, she is a Tasmanian-based artist - building her practice in a new landscape of Australia. Carrie’s artistic practice focuses on the physicality of materials and the feeling about ‘ones’ place’ within the ever changing landscape. For her complete CV, click on the link below.
